keystone real estate

Real estate is a popular investment among Canadians. There are several advantages to investing in real estate. Real estate is leveraged. You may pay only a fraction (as low as 10%) of what the property is worth when you buy it. Real estate has utility. If you buy stocks or bonds, you cannot do anything with them; but when you buy real estate, you can use it until you sell it. For example, you can live in a house.
Real Estate Brokers with the SRES designation help seniors make wise decisions about selling their home, buying rental property, managing the capital gains and estate tax implications of owning real estate, obtaining a reverse mortgage, moving to a senior community and other issues. The designation was introduced in 1997 and is nationally recognized.

CASE DESCRIPTION The primary subject matter of this case concerns the operational philosophy and actions of a small retail jewelry store. Secondary issues examined include the nature of the jewelry and diamond market, selecting an appropriate target market, developing a merchandise mix to satisfy target customers, pricing and promotion strategies for a small retail jeweler, and store location decisions. The case has a difficulty level of four, appropriate for senior level. The case is designed to be taught in one class hour and is expected to require one hour of outside preparation by students. Jack Adams owns and manages an independent jewelry store in Florida. He is facing a number of issues concerning the stores competitive effectiveness in the local jewelry market. The immediate decision is whether he should move from his long-established store location. Although his store is not very up-to-date, it is in a high-traffic location and receives a lot of exposure. He caters to a middle class clientele, but fancies his business as a higher quality, upscale operation. Thus, there are issues of image and positioning in the local jewelry market among competitors. Other questions concern his lack of effective promotion activities and hours and days of operation. All of Jacks decisions relate to the issue of his customer service and marketing orientation. The case also incorporates global dimensions as it describes the nature of the diamond market.

When might an energy-efficient building be not so energy efficient? The answer revolves around location, location, location, So far, so good. But if cars area measure of pollution, that exurban location demands a bit of scrutiny. Suppose the site adds 10 miles each way to the average employees commute. Again using EPA numbers, those extra miles essentially neutralize the pollution gains from energy efficiency. If the extra commute were longer still, this energy-efficient headquarters of a socially conscious corporation would have to be ranked below average from the perspective of global climate change. Theres another way to look at it. A building thats an energy hog might actually be a better overall performer if it happens to be located adjacent to mass transit that employees use.
Why? a spat over a parking space.

NO COLLEGE PRESIDENT IN HIS right mind would want apparel bearing his schools logo made in a sweatshop. But licensing agreements, long-held partnerships, and factors specific to the retail business make putting an end to such circumstances complicated. Backed by the Worker Rights Consortium, the DSP has drawn support from a number of IHEs, including the University of California and Columbia University. Yet others have expressed concerns about the programs complexities, and its potential for skyrocketing apparel prices and for opening the door to antitrust lawsuits. Martin Jischke, president of Purdue University, opted not to support the DSP despite student protests at his Indiana institution last spring. I am especially concerned about the requirement for unionization, Jischke wrote in a statement.

As a result, corporations are subject to double taxation, which means that the profits are taxed once on the corporate level and a second time when they are distributed as dividends to the shareholders. (If a business is eligible, it may elect S corporation status to avoid this negative characteristic of C corporations.)

For years, Remodeling magazines annual “Cost vs. Value Report” has offered comfort to homeowners investing hefty dollars into home improvement projects. The high payback on the most popular rehabs - kitchens and bathrooms - has even been the catalyst to spur some homeowners to remodel. They felt confident that if they did good work, theyd get back most of their funds. Does this mean that homeowners should stop renovating? Hardly, especially when they have a distinct vision of how they want their home to look and function - and if they have the funds. But decreasing numbers suggest greater caution: - Never overimprove. Take the value of your existing home, add in the cost of your potential improvements and be sure the new sum doesnt exceed the value of comparable neighborhood homes.

HONOLULU — A woman snorkeling off Maui was bitten in the leg by a shark Monday, about an hour after a nearby beach was closed due to a report of a shark bumping a surfer. The woman, whose name was not released, sustained injuries to her foot and calf and was taken to a hospital. The injuries were not life threatening, according to Maui County spokeswoman Mahina Martin. The attack occurred off Keawakapu Beach in Kihei. It was reported at 8:34 a.m. by a bystander on the beach. The size and type of shark was not immediately known.
TRENTON, Fla. (AP) — A college student who apparently was snorkeling by himself at a north Florida spring was found dead in an underwater cave. Matthew Ross Lund, 20, was apparently diving into the spring, and his parents said he may have hit his head on the entrance to the cave. His body was found Saturday by other divers in an offshoot of Ginnie Springs, Gilchrist County sheriffs officials said. Lund was on his high school swim team and could descend 60 feet and resurface without taking a breath, said his father, Gary Lund.

A PATENTLY PERFECT PROFESSION Still, another option intrigued her-a law career. “I decided I wanted an entire change,” says Feeman, now a patent lawyer for the Silicon Valley law firm Howrey Simon. At the time Feeman looked at the move not as the next step in her engineering career but as a clean break, she says. In fact, she hadnt even planned on specializing in patent law, a route commonly taken by engineers because it allows them to apply their technical skills to the law. Feeman initially preferred more “touchy-feely” law and viewed patent law as merely a fall-back option. As a student at Boston College Law School, she developed a passion for civil rights and public interest work, and outside the classroom became involved in the petition process to get clemency for some battered women who had murdered their husbands.
Delivered Or Issued For Delivery? When determining whether a particular claim or lawsuit is covered, one avenue that must be considered is the applicable law, which can be affected by where the policy is delivered or issued for delivery.
The aim is only to allow diplomats to carry out their functions with security and confidentiality, and also to recognise diplomats function as representatives of their country. It does not grant them freedom to flout local law, although they may be immune to local jurisdiction to enforce such laws. Contrary to a widespread belief, a diplomatic mission is not “extra-territorial”: it is, however, given the protection of inviolability within the receiving state. This rule refers to its premises and diplomatic dispatches. But all privileges and immunities are solely directed towards facilitating performance of diplomatic missions.

Chalkboard

ChalkboardThe origins of the chalkboard date back to the early decades of the 19th century. The forerunner of the chalkboard was the small, paddle-shaped hornbook. This item had been in use in schools of medieval England, and by the time of the Revolutionary War era in colonial America, it was carried by legions of students. The hornbook was a strip of wood with a piece of paper fastened onto it. On the paper were a variety of learning aids in small print. A typical hornbook would carry both the Lords Prayer and the alphabet, and a translucent sheet of animal horn covered the paper. The hornbooks were small objects, sometimes with a hole at the bottom so they could be tied on a string and worn about the neck.
During a morning visit to the school office, I noticed two boys nervously waiting to see the principal. They were polishing their excuses for being caught drawing on the chalkboard. “It was a picture of my new puppy, so Eric could see him,” one boy explained. I wish I could have seen this great drawing, I thought to myself. ATTENDANCE ART “Yes,” “Here,” “Present,” are familiar sounds of role call. In the art room, we take role on the chalkboard by having students sign a sketch of their favorite lunch box. Children are welcomed to the art room by art. We regularly ask students for quick sketches as a form of attendance-taking and a secret clue to the days lesson. Being welcomed at the chalkboard suggests to students that the art room is their studio and every surface can be used for art. New chalk shapes, and new or unusual colors, wait to be discovered beneath the board. One day, attendance is taken by custom-frosting birthday cakes. Another class signs in by creating personal license plates. At the start of the school year, frames, silhouettes and grids divide the chalkboard, offering individual plots to everyone. As the school year progresses and artists loosen up, fewer fences between artists are required.

The first camera dates back to ancient Greece, with the pinhole camera obscura. But while the camera - in its simplest form-worked, there was no way of preserving images. The first permanent photograph was made in 1826 by Joseph Nicphore Nipce using a sliding wooden box camera made by Charles and Vincent Chevalier in Paris. The first digital camera, developed in the 1970s, weighed 8lbs, was the size of a loaf of bread and captured black and white images on a digital cassette at a resolution of .01 megapixels. Steven Sasson, an engineer working for Eastman Kodak, is credited with the design. Technology has come so far and so fast that anything currently on sale below four megapixels is of questionable worth because there are already camera phones - notably by Nokia and Sharp (for Vodafone) that take three-megapixel pictures. More are on the way, meaning that it is hardly worth paying a premium on such low- quality pictures. At the higher-spec end, once non-professional photographers move past nine megapixels - more than adequate to enlarge to A3 print size - it becomes overkill. Expected developments in digi-cam technology include such basics as moving the power button further from the capture button - so a rushed attempt to take a picture doesnt turn the camera off - and obtaining better quality in poor lighting, currently a big d owner.

Scotland spends more per capita on the NHS than England does, but by next year it will have Europes lowest life expectancy, says Fraser NelsonImagine a British National Health Service flowing with French or German levels of funding. This dream, we are promised, will soon be delivered in return for higher taxes. But for the impatient, there is a solution: visit Scotland.Gordon Browns motherland was strangely absent from the list of countries sized up by the Treasury when it examined health systems from around the world last year a study which predictably concluded that money, not organisation, was the problem. Yet only Scotland shows what happens when cash is stuffed into an unreformed state-run monopoly stamped with the DNA of the late 1940s. It is the only country in the free world to have tried what Brown is now aiming for.

Cognitive behaviour therapy is well regarded and evidence based as a treatment for depression. But practitioners are in short supply. The Glasgow START project has sought to remedy this with a combination of self-help workers and a range of materials and courses often delivered in surprising settings. Authors: Ann McCreath and Theresa OBrien are nurse trainers, NHS Greater Glasgow. Liz Rafferty is self-help lead, NHS Greater Glasgow.
Self-help groupsMost self-help groups are voluntary, non-profit associations open to anyone with a similar need or interest; however, spin-off groups also exist to meet the needs of particular types of people; for example, the elderly, women, or Hispanics. Usually, groups are led by peers, have an informal structure, and are free (except for small donations to cover meeting expenses). However, professionals of various kinds lead some self-help groups.

BIKINI LINE BLASTER Want to wave goodbye to the plucked chicken look? Intense pulsed light (IPL) removal is ideal for the bikini line, says Aculight trainer Fiona Goodey, because the hair tends to be relatively dark and coarse, and this responds well to IPL. IPL works by pulsing a combination of different light wavelengths on to the skin, disabling the hair follicle. Laser does the same trick using a single beam, but IPL can go in slightly closer to delicate bits. You can get virtually the equivalent of a Brazilian wax, says Fiona. Aculight costs from pounds 100 per treatment (0870 902 1616). If you want to keep your pins smoother for longer with the humble razor, soak in the bath or shower for a few minutes before shaving to make the hairs easier to cut. Keep the water hot enough to prevent goosebumps (youll never get a smooth shave over those and will irritate your skin trying) and always use a foaming gel, especially on easy to nick areas. A triple blade razor like Gillette Venus, pounds 5.49, makes it easier to get closer without cuts. Waxing is a longer-lasting option but its better as a long- term strategy than a one-off pre-holiday fix. If you usually shave, your legs wont stay smooth for long, as its impossible to get all the stubble out, says Michaeljohns Shavata Singh. The more you wax, the finer the hairs become, but you will still have regrowth for about a week in between waxes. A good at-home version is Nads No Heat Hair Removal, pounds 17.95. Lady Victoria Hervey likes it because theres no risk of burning.
Self conscious about unwanted hair growth? Youre not alone. In fact, last year laser hair removal was one of the five most popular cosmetic procedures in the U.S. with nearly one million people treated. More and more men are having unwanted hair removed from their backs, shoulders, chests and necks. Women frequently have hair removed from their faces, legs, arms and trunks. Hair can safely be removed from any part of the body. But dont expect the results to be permanent. You can make a very visible difference and significantly reduce hair growth through a series of laser treatments. The Gentlelase by Candela is one of the most advanced hair removal lasers available today. This laser emits a beam of light that penetrates three to five millimeters through the skin to the bulb of the hair shaft where it is absorbed by the melanin that gives hair its color. The heat from this laser damages the bulb of the hair shaft and its blood supply without affecting the surrounding skin. The hair follicle remains intact but becomes miniaturized. This thermal damage impairs hair re-growth over time.

Where Creativity and Capital Meet Using Untapped Collateral and Nontraditional Payment Terms Three significant requirements are needed for a client to utilize monetization financing: 1) an assignment of/or an absolute and unconditional promise to pay from an investment-grade obligor or an acceptable substitute financial instrument backing the transaction, 2) a predictable cash flow, and 3) a date-certain payment. An investment-grade obligor for this program is typically rated by SP and Moodys with an acceptable rating. There are exceptions and substitutes, however, for these rating criteria. If a company is not rated, there are alternate procedures to qualify said obligor. An obligor is typically a customer or other third party who has contractually agreed to make payments to the client or guarantee payments for the client within a term of 1-30 years. In one sense, monetization financing can be viewed as a longer-term variation of factoring without the high cost and other major differences associated with factoring.

Not a day goes by without yet another article extolling the virtues of the Internet. An estimated 30 million worldwide users to date and more logging on every day. To the small business owner, the real question is, Where does the hype end and the reality begin? Is the Internet really a viable proposition for the traditional small business, normally constrained by lack of time, staff and money? 10 questions to ask yourself The best way to determine whether or not the Internet makes sense for your business is to apply a simple “yes” or “no” answer to 10 important marketing questions: 1. Do my clients require specific product information before they can buy my product/service? 2. Do I spend a majority of my time selling the benefits of my product only to be asked, “Can you send me more information?” 3. Is my long-distance phone bill more than $100 per month? 4. Have I lost business as a result of playing phone tag with a potential customer because I was unable to “sieze the moment?” 5. Would a new employee handling sales paperwork free me to increase my companys revenues? 6. Is there an international market for my product? 7. Does my product have a story to tell? 8. Am I spending more than 20 percent of every dollar I make on marketing-related expenses? 9. Would instant customer feedback benefit my business? 10. Would the ability to capture orders 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, help my business? If you answered “yes” to just one of these questions, you should at least explore the possibilities that Internet commerce can offer. If you answered “yes” to five or more, you should dedicate some serious time and resources to finding out how the Internet actually works (and how it can work for you). If you answered “yes” to eight or more of the questions, you need a fast-track education about the Internet before your competitors claim the medium for themselves. The smart small business owner will make plans to explore the Internet, find out what the Web can deliver and then formulate a strategy to exploit it. As Jeff Vick, Marketing Specialist at Creative Video explains, “The Internet will do to business in the 21st century what the telephone did to business in the 20th century.” The Web — How does it work? According to Vick, the Internet works well as a commercial sales tool for businesses that need to exchange information in order to specify a particular products size, color, model, price, etc. Multiple orders can be booked, billed and fulfilled through a simple response mechanism included on an Internet site. Much of this information can be communicated through the Web. While it is actually only one portion of the Internet, the Web serves as an extensive reference library that can provide any level of additional information about a particular subject, issue, item or product. As in a spiders web configuration, the Web provides an ever-increasing source of interlocking information about the subject in question. Simply point and click and you can dive deeper into additional layers of information. The Web also has certain features that make it ideal for marketing. It can display pictures and massive amounts of text about your product as well as send and receive order information while at the same time generating a receipt. If your product requires a lengthy explanation in order to communicate its benefits, the Web is the place to do it. Customers and prospects can view that information at their own pace — in many instances, via sophisticated video and audio commercials. Since were talking digital information here, there is very little difference between one word and one thousand words. And if you feel that youre spending too much time processing paperwork and not enough time selling, a well-designed Web page may be one of the potential keys to your businesses future success. How important is e-mail? An important byproduct of the Internet is e-mail, or electronic mail. Once you learn to use this valuable tool, youll wonder how you ever got along without it. Forget about what time it is, or whether its “worth a call” — with e-mail, it costs no more to send a message to Sydney that it does to Syracuse (the actual cost is about $1.00 an hour). And time zones become irrelevant as well. You and the recipient can view the messages at your convenience, thereby eliminating the dreaded game of telephone tag. So get serious! How does the smart business operator approach the formidable and intimidating task of investigating the Net? First, gather your thoughts as to what you would like your Web site to accomplish. Imagine that your customer can ask you anything he/she wants to know about your company and product — anything from product price to employee birthdays — and in no particular order. Analyze each possible scenario and list all the information relevant to it. Then, and only then, begin to organize the scenarios into a flow chart. Once you have the flow chart polished, try to find flaws in it. If your customer is browsing through the pricing section of your flow chart, will he/she be more interested in going to shipping next or reading your companys mission statement? After you feel that youve developed a solid grasp of the different portions of the business that youd like to present to your clientele, you are now ready to interview potential agencies who are skilled in creating Web pages. According to Vick, there are 3 questions you should ask a potential Web page creator: 1. Have you done this before? 2. Who have you done this for? 3. May I call them? While creating some Web pages may require the skills of a computer Ph.D., most will not, and there are competent companies in most major markets capable of accomplishing the task in a cost-effective fashion. Prices for creating a simple Web site can range from a low of $2,500 to high of $20,000. In fact, some of the Fortune 500 marketers have created sophisticated and complex Web pages that can literally run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in some cases, the millions. But for the average small business, the investment will probably be in the $5,000 to $10,000 range. And remember, you must keep your Web site content fresh, or your prospects will have no reason to come back. Seeing your own World Wide Web site up and running on the Internet can be a proud moment for any business owner. It also can mean the start of a whole new way of doing business. It has the potential to increase productivity by extending operating time to a full 24 hours a day. But this will only happen if your business really needs this technology and can use it effectively. Evaluate your situation honestly. If its right for you, acquire it. If its not, save the money. And if you want to see what its all about, contact a Web creator and ask to see a demonstration. One picture is really worth 1,000 words. Alf Nucifora is an Atlanta based marketing consultant. He may be contacted by e-mail zubicon
At the end of 1998 it was estimated that around 171.8 million people had access to the Internet throughout the world. Canada and the US held the largest share of the Internet market with 56 per cent in 1998. However, the combined percentage share is set to decline considerably as Europe and the Asia-Pacific region catches up with 24 per cent and 18 per cent, respectively, by the end of 1999. In the Asia-Pacific region, Japan has the largest share of the market.
Marketing on the Internet is broken up into six chapters packed full of information from online marketing strategies to online media relations. Although the book does give you a few examples of company stategies it concentrates more on the psychological methods behind marketing on the web. There is even the odd picture in there just to explain the text and make things that little bit easier to understand. Throughout the book the author will mention some websites which can be very beneficial as these can help you understand your site and your company on a more reliable basis.

Magnet Therapy, an Alternative Medicine Definitive Guide by William H. Philpott, MD, and Dwight K. Kalita, PhD, with Burton Goldberg, explains magnetic field therapy and gives examples of its therapeutic use for 35 health conditions. In the Japanese Medical Journal (December 4, 1976), Kyoichi Nakagawa, MD, proposed that the documented weakening of the Earths magnetic field is affecting the energy system of the human body. According to the authors of Magnet Therapy, Dr. Nakagawa believes that the weakening field is responsible for a magnetic field deficiency syndrome in humans. Stiffness in the shoulders, back, and neck; chest pains, headache and heaviness of head; dizziness; insomnia; habitual constipation; and general lassitude are signs of magnetic deficiency, according to Dr. Nakagawas 20 years of research. Long-term magnetism deficiency appears to decrease the bodys innate healing ability and make a person more vulnerable to infectious organisms and environmental toxins. Magnetic fields exhibit two polarities: positive in which electrons spin clockwise and negative in which electrons spin counterclockwise. In 1974, physicist Albert Roy Davis and W.C. Rawls published Magnetism and Its Effects of the Living System [sic]. They said that magnetic polarities have opposing effects on biological systems. Negative magnetic fields are said to normalize pH, oxygenate, resolve cellular edema, slow infection, reduce pain and inflammation, increase relaxation, slow brain electrical activity, and evoke anabolic hormone production. In contrast, positive magnetic fields have the opposite effect, promoting disease and increasing pain.
Magnet therapy has been around for centuries in China, India, Egypt, and Greece. In more recent years it has spread west to some European countries, but in North America it is still regarded as alternative medicine (and is one of the therapies being studied by the National Institutes of Health). There is extensive foreign literature on magnet therapy for pain relief and while the quality of the research varies widely, some studies look good. There have been only a few published studies in the United States. One from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston showed that magnets were more than twice as effective as placebos in treating post-polio, muscular, and arthritic-like pain. Another study from New York Medical College showed good results using magnetic shoe inserts to treat diabetic neuropathy (foot pain some diabetics suffer). Although some US, doctors believe there may be something valid in the use of magnets, many remain legitimately skeptical. American physicians generally want a good, solid base of randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-center trials clearly demonstrating effectiveness and safety before recommending a therapy to their patients. Even if risks are not a concern (which seems to be true for magnets) the expense can be significant, and even more important, proven treatments may be passed over for an ungrounded hope. There are many traditional medical therapies that are well accepted by the American medical establishment and yet are not fully understood. Still, it is always nice to have a hunch how a therapy works. Theories abound for magnet therapy, but so far any possible mechanism remains to be proved. There is no shortage of anecdotal claims of success. Anecdotal claims do not constitute conclusive scientific proof, but the absence of side effects or prohibitive cost, lead many people with chronic pain to give it a try.

Home, I bang the sand out of my shoes. I havent the craft to make a goats-belly bagpipe
Imeldas Fine Shoes began, fittingly enough, with gushing over a pair of shoes. Actually, it was two pairs of shoes–one pink and orange, the other black and white striped, both with bows–and a long-running series of mutual compliments between two members of Baton Rouge Junior League. The name, of course, comes courtesy of the shoe-obsessed wife of Ferdinand Marcos, the late dictator of the Philippines.

Nicosia: The director of the Cyprus immigration service was remanded in custody yesterday in a corruption scandal involving cash for visas on the eastern Mediterranean holiday island. The issue has cast a harsh spotlight on the immigration department, already notorious for its sometimes harsh treatment of foreigners caught on the wrong side of the law in Cyprus.
THE CYPRUS QUESTION The idiocy of those who engineered the Greek coup was boundless. Nothing was more evident than that the Turks would welcome the move as a pretext to invade the island at a moment when sympathies for Greece (at that time under the Colonels) were at an all-time low. The Greek Cypriots fought valiantly, but they were overwhelmed by the Turkish army. Turkey and Greece would undoubtedly have come to war over Cyprus had it not been for 1) the fact that the Greek military junta responsible for the coup surrendered power a few days after the Turkish invasion, and 2) the pressure put on Turkey and Greece by their fellow NATO members. If Cyprus is ever to be reunited, some way will have to be found that is not strictly along democratic lines. Democracy means majority rule, and the Greek Cypriots, as one could expect, are all for it, as are the Protestants of Northern Ireland and the blacks of South Africa. But the Turkish Cypriots, understandably, wont accept such a governing formula.

Electricity bills depend on how much electricity is used each month. Soon auto insurance premiums, too, may be metered, based partly on how much the car is driven. That is the goal of Progressive Auto Insurance, which is testing a system that uses global positioning satellite technology to track when, where and how much its auto insurance customers drive — and then charges them accordingly. A pilot version of the program is being tested in Texas. The system is the brainchild of Robert J. McMillan, a business development leader at Progressive, a major auto insurance company based in Mayfield Village, Ohio.
“About 85% of our clientele is Hispanic and we speak other languages. We specialize in urban areas.” Perez credited the states auto insurance reforms for creating a competitive market for insurers that has led to lower premiums. “Before auto insurance reform, no insurance companies wanted to give appointments to agencies that deal with urban markets because of fear of fraud and stolen vehicles. Now there is an agency in Patterson able to provide private insurance.”
Rarely a day goes by where you do not see, hear, or read about a car accident. Some car accidents are minor fender benders in which no one gets hurt while others are tragic multiple vehicle accidents resulting in injury and death. Our legal system is built on the belief that those injured by the carelessness of others have a fundamental right to be fully compensated for their injuries. Car accidents can result in injury to both persons and property. Car insurance serves two purposes. Your car insurance protects you when you are at fault for an accident. The other persons car insurance protects you when you are the victim of a car accident.

John Osbornes first play, Look Back in Anger, had its premiere in 1956 and he called it a formal, old-fashioned play. His second play, The Entertainer, was set during the Suez Crisis and opened in 1957. What was new about both was that the characters were real working-class people. No real parts had been written about working- class characters before - only “cheeky chappy” roles such as Doolittle in Pygmalion. When asked if I wanted to go to see The Entertainer I was uncertain. Why? I had worked backstage on a brilliant amateur production (by the Tavistock Rep) in 1969 and it had stayed in my mind, with few productions since to affect the fond memories. How wrong I was to hesitate. For me this production, under Sean Holmess direction, ticks all the boxes and putting it on 50 years after it was set is brilliant timing. So much of it resonates in 2007: a misguided war in the Middle East and young men dying needlessly; the obsession with skinny/size zero women; fading performers (or “personalities”) trying to reinvent themselves; feelings against politicians of either party; comments about the Poles and the Irish; and confusion over national identity.

brisbane hypnotherapy

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is common, with each UK GP seeing an average of about eight patients every week. It is unpleasant for sufferers, negatively affects quality of life, and is expensive for health services. A large proportion of patients do not do well with conventional therapy, and many seek unconventional alternatives. One of these is a form of hypnotherapy known as gut-directed hypnotherapy. It is based on relaxation to try to normalise gut function. Because there are claims that it works, some purchasers are tempted to provide a service. A systematic review of trials [1] suggests a large degree of caution is warranted. Authors sought studies, of any design, in nine electronic databases, and even contacted authors for information about any further studies.
HypnotherapyHypnotherapy is a combination of hypnosis and therapeutic intervention . The therapist leads the patient to positive change while the patient is deeply relaxed in a state of heightened suggestibility called trance.
Morgan D. (1996). The principles of hypnotherapy. Bradford UK: Eilidon Press. The book is divided into three parts. Part A consisting of 9 chapters covers foundational material on systems theory and how that can be applied to organic systems and to hypnosis. It discusses positive feedback loops that amplify the process and negative feedback loops that subdue the process. Positive feedback amplification can be either beneficial or harmful depending on whether increasing the effect is desired, while negative feedback calming can be either beneficial or harmful depending on whether decreasing the effect is desired. Morgan focuses on the activity of a system, the activity of its component subsystems, or the activity of the supersystem of which the system is a component. His main theoretical focus is on whether the activity of the system is increasing, decreasing, or staying the same, as other components change in specified ways. Hypnosis is described in systems terms, not as a “state,” but rather in terms of what system or subsystem components are changed, either increased or decreased, during trance induction, deepening, maintenance, trance work, and termination. He uses simple symbols to represent activities in quasi-mathematical style, which is helpful. Some of the letter symbols are used for different activities in different parts of the book. It would have been easier to follow if given letter symbols had been used more consistently to represent single specific activities. Some of his textual references to others publications are found in the bibliography at the end of the book, but some are unfortunately not present in the bibliography. He goes through common hypnotic tests in Chapter 8 and inductions in Chapter 9 explaining them in systems terms. This does produce some greater conceptual clarity with respect to subsystem component activities during hypnosis. Part B consisting of 6 chapters is the central discussion on what the systems approach can teach us about hypnotherapy. Chapter 10 discusses the matter of diagnosis in systems terms looking at precursors, problems, and resultants, and how they change with respect to one another. Chapter 11 focuses on positive and negative feedback loops in organic systems including behavioral, emotive, and cognitive. The vicious circle is a positive feedback loop with harmful consequences. Thinking in systems terms may make needed changes clearer to the therapist. Chapter 12 looks at the consequences of symptom reduction. The remaining three chapters in this part examine making changes by choosing the appropriate positive feedback loops to amplify desired effects and the appropriate negative feedback loops to quiet undesired effects, planning the changes, and reinforcing the changes by selecting natural reinforces.

Dont get me wrong. I like politics, I even like politics on television. At midnight I like nothing better than watching Andrew Neil chuckling over the events of the day with hollow-eyed MPs and hacks. Theres much to be enjoyed in Prime Ministers Questions on Wednesday afternoons, even though at the moment we have a Leader of the Opposition who isnt especially good at asking questions and a Prime Minister who is especially good at not answering them. But I welcome the BBCs decision to remove live coverage of party political conferences from terrestrial television. For years, these annual tribal gatherings of the politically committed have turned viewers off politics, on to opposing parties, or on to another channel. During their long years in the wilderness, and for decades before that, the Labour Party had vibrant, argumentative debates in which a group of people, all espousing belief in the brotherhood of man, viciously attacked everyone and everything they did not happen to agree with. Year after year, stern trade unionists condemned even sterner party leaders; one wing of the party flapped at the other. Fear and loathing in Blackpool or Brighton.

People Search

Zumende offers a more personalized people search experience by allowing
users to locate, connect, research and communicate with others, bridging
the gap between a persons professional, personal and online life, all in
one place. Zumendes unique integration technology allows a user to narrow
search results using parameters that mirror how people think about and
categorize interpersonal relationships based on their context. For
example, Zumende users can search for people and filter results using a
variety of parameters including maiden name, academic background,
employment history, present or past location and online profiles, including
social networking sites.

We live in a transient society, where more than 200,000 Americans move
everyday, and the average length of employment for an individual at one
company is less than five years, making it difficult for people to keep in
touch or maintain accurate information about others. Social networking
sites have sought to offer a platform to allow friends, family and former
colleagues with common interests to interact online but these sites often
fall short due to limited active membership. Basic white pages-style
searches are equally limiting as they require a persons name and current
location — information users often dont have when they are seeking to
reconnect with someone from their past. Zumende, meanwhile, uses a
proprietary algorithm that scours, aggregates and correlates disparate
public and web-based information such as address history, professional
history and colleagues, email addresses, age, relatives and neighbors,
education history, social network profile information and more, creating a
more relevant, personal way to search for people.

“Zumende will transform the way we find people and what we can learn about
them, rendering current people search services obsolete,” said Naveen Jain,
CEO for Intelius. “People search has become one of the most popular
activities on the Internet. Zumendes proprietary technology allows users
to access information about people from various sources, regardless of the
context of their relationship with the person, and irrespective of how
outdated the information they do know about the person may be.”

In 2 randomly selected groups of healthy college students, mean sIgA increase was 32 mg/dl in the group experiencing 17 minutes of focussing on immune system imagery and a music tape vs. a rise of 16 mg/dl in quietly sitting controls (plt;.0001). Instances of tachycardia, breathing problems and bruxism decreased significantly in the imagery group vs. no change in controls. COMMENT: Immune measures changed quickly here in only 17 minutes. This emphasizes the lability of the responsiveness of the immune system. We also see here the influence of music. The influence of different types of music has also been extensively studied, with different varieties of music having different effects. We physicians should probably pay attention to the contribution to the healing atmosphere of our waiting rooms by carefully considering the background music.
The MusicDar Williams discussed during her set the reasons why womyn should switch to organic, unbleached cotton tampons and other products such as sea sponges during our periods. The traces of dioxins found in grocery store tampons are hazardous carcinogens; at the same time, the male-owned “feminine hygiene product” industry is making an astounding profit off our bodies. Williams considered that the organic products are more expensive than mainstream ones, so she offered a few hilarious possibilities for overcoming the increased expense. One suggestion was to give female loved ones packages of woman-safe tampons for birthday and seasonal gifts. For her personal contribution, she stopped at every health food store and co-op on her way to the festival and cleared their shelves of boxes of unbleached tampons. At this point her traveling companions walked down the catwalk with an enormous basket full of tampons and began wildly flinging them into the audience. Gleeful womyn rushed the stage to scoop up flying tampons!Tribe 8 returned for the night stage this year. The audience was noticeably smaller than other nights because many women didnt attend the performance. I hadnt been to one of their shows before so I looked forward to seeing what all the fuss was about from previous years. Yes, Lynn Breedlove hacked off a dildo on stage in Hothead Paisan fashion. I had a visceral jolt of fascination and revulsion watching her saw at the big dildo with her huge, bright silver knife — an effect the whole show seems intended to engender. I enjoyed the show — it was energetic, joyful and participative even while it fiercely expressed their anger about being women in a patriarchal world. Many women can relate to their first song, “The Mens Room is Down the Hall.” In this song Breedlove challenges those who judge her for not conforming to patriarchal norms of how a woman should dress and act.

VIAGRA is set to become the latest target of drugs tsar Keith Hellawell, it emerged yesterday. The Governments drugbuster is monitoring the influx of black market supplies of the impotency pills into the UK and is poised to offer advice to ministers on curbing its illicit use. Although more accustomed to tackling heroin, cocaine and ecstasy, Mr Hellawell said his remit covered all forms of drug abuse - including improper use of Viagra, which has taken America by storm.
ERECTILE DYSFUNCTIONThe FDA has approved a second drug to treat erectile dysfunction, setting up a turf war with sildenafil (Viagra) for the billion-dollar market to treat impotence. The newcomer, vardenafil (Levitra), works similarly to Viagra: Both drugs target an enzyme important in maintaining an erection. Common adverse reactions to both drugs include headache, flushing, and a stuffy nose.

Painter And Priest
Ideally, go to Venice to see Tiepolo this autumn while there is a magnificent exhibition, celebrating the tercentenary of the painters birth, at the Ca Rezzonico. That palazzo — usually the Museum of Eighteenth Century Venetian Art - is consequently as thronged as it can have been since Cole Porter threw parties there in the Twenties. Next spring more or less the same show moves to New York, but it will not be, could not possibly be the same because in and around Venice numerous other palaces, churches and institutions form a parallel, permanent exhibition of Tiepolo. You are encouraged, rightly, to visit these too, in conjunction with the exhibition. The visiting paintings amplify and illuminate the resident ones to make this a unique opportunity to see this extraordinarily fecund painter whole. One comes away convinced that Tiepolo was a towering figure in European art. Such praise might come as a surprise to those who visited the Glory of Venice at the Royal Academy two years ago. There Tiepolo was pitted against his contemporary and rival G.B. Piazzetta, altarpiece for altarpiece, and did not come off all that well. The slow-working Piazzetta, inclined to a dun-coloured palette, seemed the more serious and the deeper of the two. Though there were fine Tiepolos on display, in comparison he seemed - as he often has to earnest Northern Europeans - brilliant, but also distastefully insipid and sugary. A visit to Venice puts one right about that. It demonstrates very quickly that even a largish selection of portable paintings such as was at the RA gives only a partial impression of Tiepolos gifts. A major problem is that much of his finest work was - to use the ugly jargon of the present day - `site-specific. That is to say, it was painted for a particular place, and, indeed, in the case of a fresco indissolubly linked with its structure. There is no substitute for going to that building and standing opposite, or more often in Tiepolos case beneath the painting.

Radio continues to be an inexpensive way for dealers and suppliers to reach their increasingly mobile customers Last year, the Minnesota-Dakota Hardware Association used $130,000 in co-op funds provided by five companies — Ace Hardware, United Hardware Distributors, TruServ, Briggs Stratton and 3M — for a five-month-long radio campaign extolling the virtues of the independent dealer over its warehouse competitors. Radio, which traces its roots back to the 1870s when it served as a point-to-point wireless telegraph, has survived several technology revolutions and continues to provide a reliable venue for dealers promotional efforts. Its relatively low cost and access to people while they are mobile are making radio a preferred and efficient medium for more companies. At least one study has even found that online dealers, with their cutting-edge approach to marketing and selling, are using radio ambitiously to get their messages out to shoppers.

Mens Leather Jackets

Leather JacketSoldiers of the Roman Empire invaded the lands of northern Europe and discovered Teutonic nomads wearing leather garments as protection against the harsh elements. When these soldiers returned to Rome with leather pants, the toga-garbed officials of the city tried to ban their use, but to no avail. Romans were soon using leather for shoes and tunics as well as for breastplates and shields. In fact, the first recorded tanning guild was formed in the Roman Empire.
Marlon Brando exemplified the style in the film The Wild One, and the coat became a necessity for Hells Angels and other bikers who emblazoned their clubs name on the back. Rock stars and punks later latched on to this “bad boy” image of black leather, but leather jackets eventually found mainstream favor when manufacturers began creating leather in a variety of styles and colors, such as the brown bomber jacket and haute couture skirts and blazers. The mystique of the original biker style, however, endures.

Promotional Lanyards

QUESTION: Recently, administrators informed us that OR staff members must wear name tags, and they have provided us with lanyards to wear attached to the name tags. What is AORNs position on wearing a name tag in the OR? If a name tag is required, can we wear the lanyards around our necks, or are these considered in the same category as necklaces? Like a necklace, a name tag could be a potential source of contamination if the lanyard is dangling around the neck of perioperative personnel during prepping or when the person is near the sterile field. During this time, the name tag should be secured in a pocket or under a snapped warm-up jacket to prevent it from dangling or falling into the surgical area and leading to possible contamination. An alternative method of attaching the name tag (eg, a pin, a clip) may decrease the risk of the name tag contaminating the sterile field or a prepped area. The attaching device should be washable and securely attached to decrease the chance that it will fall off. Examples of devices that may not be acceptable include, but are not limited to,

Illumination tools are better than theyve ever been, and the future looks even brighter–sorry, couldnt resist. Having been present for the transition from the Eveready plastic light to the high tech lights of today, its interesting to see the changes in equipment and techniques. Since I teach low-light techniques almost daily, Ive seen some odd quirks over the years. If you dont use a light often, you might pay attention now. Typically the flashlight lanyard of today is about 30 of parachute cord, folded in half with an adjustable plastic keeper. Often theres a snap hook attaching the lanyard to the light.

An investment consortium consisting of British Ensign Estates Limited, Allied Commercial Holdings Limited and Galavine Limited has acquired the shares of the Shuwa Ashdown House Corporation, owner of the head leasehold interest in Ashdown House, a major office and retail building on Victoria Street in London. The company is a United States subsidiary of Shuwa Investments Corporation, which purchased the leasehold in 1989 with approximately 230 years unexpired. The freehold is owned by the Church Commissioners for England. Constructed in 1975, Ashdown House has approximately 190,000 SF of office space let to the Secretary of State for the Environment, approximately 36,000 SF of retail space in 17 units, and 107 parking spaces. The retail units include the Royal Bank of Scotland, Abbey National Building Society, Boots Plc, and the Body Shop.
Companies are looking to firms such as ExecuStay by Marriott to help ease the transition for workers relocating to markets where finding a permanent home can take several months or for temporary consultants who want to be in a residential setting with some hotel amenities, like weekly housekeeping. Marriott estimates the national corporate housing market to be about $2 billion annually. We are seeing a strong need throughout the Tri-State area and have amassed a significant amount of units in Connecticut, New Jersey, Long Island and Westchester as well as Manhattan. The demand outstrips supply in many of these areas, particularly in Fairfield County and Northern New Jersey. Corporate housing has been on the rise since 1997, when the local and national economies really took off and businesses were adding employees. Rising occupancy and room rates at hotels have also helped the corporate housing market in recent years.
Craft House is now chiefly a sales and marketing operation, and is currently maintaining its office on North Westwood. Chris Pavain, president and COO of Craft House, explained: “Well either sell the building or lease it out for storage space and remain here in the building. More than likely, well probably have multiple people here leasing out the building, and we will stay where we are. We will remain in Toledo; we have no plans for moving out. If we do sell the building, then weve already worked it out with Spartan that we would get office space where our warehousing and distribution is on Wales Road.” John Green, SIOR with CB Richard Ellis Reichle Klein is currently representing the 265,000 square foot Westwood building. Craft House is a leisure time activities based company. It distributes Paint-By-Numbers, suncatchers, candle making kits, model kits, and science kits that are sold to different “big box” and hobby and craft stores around the country. The company has been in operation for over fifty years and is based in Toledo. The Michigan manufacturing facility will still be producing 60 percent of Craft Houses product line. Craft House also uses local companies for its packaging needs, including High Tech Packaging.

Concrete BlockConcrete mortar was used by the Romans as early as 200 B.C. to bind shaped stones together in the construction of buildings. During the reign of the Roman emperor Caligula, in 37-41 A.D. , small blocks of precast concrete were used as a construction material in the region around present-day Naples, Italy. Much of the concrete technology developed by the Romans was lost after the fall of the Roman Empire in the fifth century. It was not until 1824 that the English stonemason Joseph Aspdin developed portland cement, which became one of the key components of modern concrete.
No retrospective would be complete without remembering the contributions of leading figures who have helped shape the industry. In this issue recognizing todays top contractors (see page 27), it is fitting to salute some of the pioneers from CONCRETE CONSTRUCTIONS early days. It was Corbettas dedication to the development of a strong concrete industry, however, that earned him the moniker Mr. Concrete. He was instrumental in founding several organizations, starting in 1950 with the Concrete Industry Board of New York City, which brought together concrete contractors, producers, architects, engineers, testing labs, cement manufacturers, and reinforcing steel producers.
Much of the material stems from practical problems encountered by Neville in consulting work or in litigation. For copies, contact the American Concrete Institute on +1 248 848 3800, e-mail: bkstore@concrete.org.

Editor: That same week I found a cancer support group led by the late Dr. Glen Warner. I launched into an intensive exploration of various cancer cures. By the time I had my second chemotherapy of six scheduled, I made the decision to quit because I was so sick and also one of the members of the support group had quit her chemotherapy and was feisty and thriving. The key to survival was an active and aggressive immune system which was the true healer of the disease that I allowed to develop in my body.
